Lithuanian historians will visit Kremenchuk

Participants of the Lithuanian project “National expedition” will arrive in Kremenchuk

 June 22 – July 12, 2018, a unique Lithuanian television project “National Expedition” began in Ukraine.

This project has been in existence for the fourth year and includes well-known Lithuanian historians, journalists, representatives of show business. The project is executed on request of the National Television and Radio Company of Lithuania, the captured material is broadcasted on Lithuanian television (it is planned to create 25 television programs).

The expedition team floats Dnieper on the historic ship Vytautas the Great, thus promoting the common history of Lithuania and Ukraine, introducing Lithuanian viewers to Ukrainian culture, natural and historical monuments, the present, strengthening the Lithuanian-Ukrainian ties.

On June 20, 2018, the caravan of the “National Expedition” traveled by road from Vilnius, stopping in Lublin (Poland) and arrived in Lviv on June 22. Then the participants of the project went to Oleska, Pidhirtsi, Lutsk, Olik, Ostroh, Zhytomyr.

June 25, “National Expedition” in the city of Straholissia, located almost 20 kilometers from Pripiat, launched a ship and drove the Dnieper further.

During the expedition, scheduled stops and visits to Kiev, Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi, Kaniv, Cherkasy, Kremenchuk, Kamiansky, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Vesele and Kherson. The expedition will complete its route in Odesa and Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky.

June 27, 2018, at 17.00. the Vytautas the Great ship was moored at the pier No. 10 of the River Station on Podil.

Among the participants of the expedition is professor of history of Vilnius University. Alfredas Bumblauskas, head of the Center for Academic Affairs of the University of Mykolas Riomerisa historian Dr. Barbara Stankiewicz, historians Simonas Tyashkyavichyus and Luke Lyeskauskaytye, musicologist and presenter of television and radio programs Zita Kyelmitskaytye, naturalist and presenter of radio Selyemonas Paltanavichyus, ornithologist Ingrid Myashkinitye, journalist and broadcaster Edmunadas Yakilaytis, journalist and TV presenter Edita Mildaitsete, television presenter and sports commentator Robertas Pétrauskas, musician Gabrielus Lyadanskas Swaras, racing driver Benedictus Vanagas, restaurateur Arminas Darasjiavicius. The captain of the ship is Simas Knapkis. In general, the expedition team consists of 43 people.

The Vytautas the Great ship was built by recreating an ancient Lithuanian ship of the 18th century, fragments of which were found on the river Nemunas. The length of the ship is 13 m, the width is 2.7 m, its weight is 4 tons.

Guests arrive in Kremenchuk July 3, 2018 in the afternoon. A group of five Lithuanian scholars led by prof. Alfredas Bumbleauskas will come to our city from Chyhyryn.

Guests chat with local scholars – historians, government officials and the general public. After the meeting in the format of the roundtable, the guests will visit the International Information and Contact Center named after the Grand Lithuanian Prince Vytautas, who is located in the office of Kremenchuk Center for International Relations and Economic Development of Kremenchuk Invest.
